Stalled Jars

Guys...I've been at this for several years and I've never had this happen before, but my Treasure Coast jars have completely stalled...No contams...but no growth for weeks...I just started them for fun a few months ago...I had some mycelium growing on agar and I had some brown rice in the house, so I made a few jars and inoculated them with the agar...At first the growth was rapid and encouraging, but after a few weeks it slowed and basically stopped...I've waited so long, I kinda hate to lose them...Any ideas what I can do???

they usually stall becuase of contam, you just might not be able to see it...how far along colonized are they??? what do they smell like?

Yeah...My sniffer is actually broken right now...can't really smell much, but it smells sweet, possibly fermented, but no obvious signs of contam...I'm guessing the sweet/ferment smell could be from the agar, but it's my first time experimenting with it...
If I were to birth, crumble and case (removing as much of the uncolonized, brown rice as possible) how much of a contam risk am I taking???

go for it, you got nothing to lose at this point IMO
Just try to use it as a learning experience if you figure out why and let us know

you need to explain what tek or teks you are following...
and why are you using agar with brown rice?
what method of inoculation did you use?
we need more information to help you!~

One of my jars stalled out for about a week and then picked up again after a stint in the ICU, which is basically a towell-wrap.. Took about twice as long to fully colonize as the rest o them, but it happened in the end. What's your temp setting? What's your substrate Mix?

like RK said, why is there agar in your BRF jars? agar belongs in petri dishes when doing culture work. there's not much purpose or benefit to try and use it for anything else.... its basically like jell-o, there's no function of having jell-o in a PF jar. it will only screw up the texture and airiness of a substrate jar.
anyway... its irrelevant, your jars are done for. sweet/fermented means they've been infected with bacteria... that is an obvious sign you should look out for. they won't look different really, they might appear a darker shade of brown... sometimes the edges of the mycelium that was colonizing will thicken up and take on a yellow/brownish color if left for a little while. colonizing PF jars shouldn't really smell like anything. when you open to birth, they smell like fresh mushrooms, but that smell isn't strong enough to permeate the verm layer and make it through your holes... they should be scentless basically when they're sealed up and colonizing. agar doesn't have a strong enough odor that you'd notice it outside the jars either. a bacterial infection will stop colonization dead in its tracks. considering your jars stalled, and they smell, i can promise you with near 100% certainty they're contaminated, and there's no saving it once bacteria hits. if you crumble & case at this point, they're not going to go anywhere, and will only smell worse, and other contams will quickly move in because the mycelium is either weak or dead at this point. sorry to be the bearer of bad news
