In Vitro Question
    #5967205 - 08/15/06 07:03 PM (17 years, 5 months ago)

I have a jar that was stalled (or so I thought) so I threw it aside and forgot about it. I just came across it and it had finished colonizing and started growing in vitro.

There are a ton of small growths that I assume are aborts but it looks like they've started spoiling as the cap and stem are black.

Will these contaminate the good mushrooms growing out of the substrate?

There are two large ones and several medium size ones growing out of the top, and since this is the closest thing to a grow I have going on I don't want to trash them if there is no real risk of eating them.

i think you should birth the cake and cut all the aborts and pins that look like they are rotting... no sense in risking your health over some rotten pins

Sorry, I should have been more specific. It's not a cake, it's bird seed.

Thanks

Actually, looking at it I realized this one was popcorn substrate, not wbs. (If it matters).

I picked the largest one and it looks and smells perfectly normal.
Anything lurking inside I should be weary of?
