I bought a Copiapoa Hypogaea (The lizard skin variety) on ebay a few weeks ago, and last week I noticed some flower buds growing. The buds finally opened this week revealing a very pretty Yellow Flower. It's the first cactus to flower in my entire cactus collection. I was also wondering if any of you know if Copiapoa Hypogaea is self fertile? I hope you guys/gals enjoy the pics .

I cannot answer your question,sorry.
Nice pictures.Does the flower have any sort of smell?Does this cactus have medicinal or entheogenic value at all?I am not talking strictly mescaline.
The skin is amazing looking.Almost looks dead and dry.It is obvious why its called the lizard skin variety.

Wow! nice little cacti.
That sure dose bear quite a resemblance to Lophophora
No clue if they are self fertile

I don't think it has any known ethnobotanical properties to it. I don't think its been tested for alkaloid content. There is not very much info. out there about it. I just thought you guys might enjoy the pics. I find the skin to be very unique and tough.
Yeah if other Copiapoa's are not self fertile, its probably a trait of all the other diff. Copiapoa's.

i know its an old ass thread but have you heard anything on the self fertile thing? is it self fertile?
i'm doing some shopping around for a mate for my lizard skin and if i don't need one i won't buy one.
i bought, just now a turbinicarpus pseudopectinatus and turbinicarpus klinkerianus. a mate for my t. pseudopectinatus and i'll search for another t. klinkerianus later.
