Hi,

The top layer of the rye in my jars looks dryer then the layer at the bothom,
is this bad, and if yes is it bad to moist it a littlebit?

It is probably a bad idea to add water at this point. You will be giving contaminations a window to move in through and giving them a nice wet place to grow on nutrient rich substrate that hasn't been colonized yet.

If these are pf style cakes, I would let them go and see what happens. If the tops refuse to colonize, you can cut them off (with a sterile knife) after you birth them.

If these are 2/3 full quart jars, you can just shake everything up to help spread the dry stuff out.

non off them both,

i have 720ml jars, the lid stay's loose on the jars i put a double layer of tinfoil crumpled over the lid and top part of the jar.

I dont think it is a good idea either. Didnt you add the right amount of water in the first place?
