fairly simple math question, how do i do it
    #5965857 - 08/15/06 11:43 AM (17 years, 5 months ago)

sorry, i forget how to do most math stuff so i need to ask this here.

1/Rt= 1/r1 + 1/r2
1/Rt= 1/6 + 1/18

This is to do with resistance in an electrical circuit. Rt is resistance total , r1 is resistor 1, r2 is resistor 2.

I just need to know how to do this, i need to work out what Rt is.
I don't care as much for the answer as i do about HOW to get the answer.
thanks

Rt = 1/(1/6 + 1/18) = 1/(3/18 + 1/18) = 1/(4/18) = 18/4 = 4.5

that was more of a reciprocal fraction question rather than a true electronic resistance question.

The first thing you need to do in an electrical resistance equation is determine whether or not the resistors are in parallel, series, or a combination of both.
