Rye Grain Cakes?
    #596506 -

AFOAF has 6 bags of rye grain innoculated with B+. When they were 90% colonized, he shook them and let them re-colonozine. Now he wants to know if he can leave them as cakes, or should they be cased?

Either should work. You will probably get a better harvest if cased, but you will also increase the risk of contamination. Since you have several bags, you could try a little of each and see which works better for next time.

My friend is a little weary of casing them because he lost his last rye grain bag to contam after casing, but the brf was fine after casing. He will most likely try both and see what happens.

If your rye is fully colonized then I would be less worried about it getting contams, this dont mean you dont have to be sterile though. Its the casing layer that is most likely to get contams

also, a major proble mi've seen is overlay
after casing you let your cased sub. incubate for awhile longer.
as soon as mycelium pops through, fire it in to fruit
