bird seed seems to be the most popular spawning substrate for bulk, from my understanding it does not straight case very well in most cases though.(i did see a really nice straight WBS casing in a recent grow log though) just check out the grow log section to see first hand what WBS is capable of.

WBS and Straw seem to be a popular comboantion for bulk grows. Thats what I plan on doing for my grow in process. Check out some of the grow logs ... the harvests are amazing.

There are several ways to prepare and use bird seed.
For your first time I would suggest that you do a 24 soak. It's a lot more fool proof then simmering or your soak/simmer teks.
I like using WBS as spawn. You can fruit right from the WBS if you wish. I have never bothered because horse poo is widely available for me and has always giving me excellent results.

If you plan on fruiting from strait grains I would recomend using rye berries. They hold more water and give much better results. The prep is very similar to wbs. I like to soak and simmer my rye. They hold much more water that way.

Bird seed was excellent for putting in poo and growing bulk. always huge yields growing in horse poo for me. in humid Florida we would take the bulk and bury it in the ground outside during the summer. flush after flush of lipi's and b+
