dear everyone - well, thanks...for better or for worse, and thanks in great part to your excellent advice, here are pix of my first pf attempt...any responses would be greatly appreciated, particularly as i'm a bit concerned about the scrawniness of some of these specimens, the fact that some of the caps are kind of black and ...maybe...rotten?...and so on...
of course, these mushrooms are fictional etc etc
i appreciate all the patience you've shown to me and other 'noobs'...
bestest, jash

that "weird thing" is something i made sure to check out on the contams forum...was assured all was well...something about mycelium piss stain...as awful as that phrase is...
re: "better than nothing"...well...yeah...the heat where i live this past month has been unbearable...plus family emergency meant that i had to trust a friend with no interest whatever in mushroom cultivation to air these little guys out etc for the past two weeks...really when they started pinning...so will try again with i hope greater success...i just want to ask the more experienced among you what went right, what went wrong, and so on.. best, jash

Congrats on your first grow! The "black" stuff you mentioned looks like spore deposits and not rot. As far as the "scrawniness" of your fruits...give yourself a pat on the back, you got fruits! The PF tek is a GREAT first step, but unfortunately (for me anyway) isn't a very high yealding one. Now that you've got a successful PF grow under your belt, if you're confident that you're ready to progress, take STR advice and crumble and case those puppies next time. If you're not confident, do another PF run or 3 to build your skills and your comfortability first. Looks to me like you're doing just fine. Again, congratulations!
Peace.

Thanks CS and STR...it's good to know these fruits are ready to eat! My plan is to try the PF Tek one more time...using half pints next time as opposed to full pints, seeing as how 3 out of 8 of my full-pint jars ended up contaminated etc...and if that goes well, a casin' I will go...if you can recommend a casing tek for noobs, great...again, it's so terrific that this community is around in the face of the political nightmare world we're currently in! best, jash

hey jashbery,
good job on your first grow. you have requested a casing tek, and one that comes to mind can be found here:
http://www.shroomery.org/index.php/par/23805
its pretty simple to follow, and i recently used it to make my first casing using two half pint PF cakes. i'm really happy with the results so far, there are litterally pins everywhere, i just couldn't beleive it. it's defintely worth a try, and a step up from cakes.

best of luck in your future grows.

Thanks DB - and everyone else, of course...the casing TEK looks astonishingly easy and fun...I'll definitely try it out after my second PF grow...
peace and giggles and joy despite the facts, jash
