Ok i am just wondering why people dont use a mixture of straw/hpoo more often other than contaming because if you use enough myc it wont contam it seems that it would be more beneficial because when the horse eats the straw he/she takes up the nutes and then shit's out the rest so by adding straw you are giving more nutes which in turn should be better right ? just want some advice on this since i have a tub right now that is 5 1/2 inches of a 50/50 mix of straw and hpoo with gypsom added straw was cooked with 1 ounce of veg oil
casing will be peat/limestone flour/c0ca3
thanks for the posts guys

I use 50/50 straw poo. Proper pasturization prevents contams, and straw helps speed colonization. I've tried a lot of subs, straw/poo is the best IMO.

You can't go wrong either way. I prefer to use straw because I want the substrate colonized ASAP. I don't think potency would vary between the two enough to notice, if at all.

Combined horse crap & straw is my favorite substrate, though I prefer to use a 60/40 ratio. And FYI, horses eat hay, not straw.
