Television
    #5960538 - 08/13/06 08:59 PM (17 years, 5 months ago)

The only people I know who watch a lot of television are people who have never tripped before. All the trippers I know never lay eyes on a tv. Anybody else notice this?

the most spiritual people i know don't have tv.....

well actually one does....... i guess it's a culture thing [which he likes to learn about]

western spiritual people i know don't watch it.

but i guess i know maybe 4 and i'm 1 of them.

Yeah, it pulls you in like that.  But very shortly you realize that most shows are shit and that you can be doing other things more beneficial to your soul.

If I'm bored I watch a movie or some cartoons, other than that I mostly avoid it. I usualy become bored quickly from it, a good laugh at the bullshit most tv shows are then I have to turn it off.

I rarely watch TV, even though I have access to about every channel. The only thing I do watch is the horror movie channel because I'm a real horror movie freak........

I sometimes like watching reality shows or MTV just to see how simple minded people are...or just to laugh at them. Sometimes I will watch cooking shows if I'm eating a shitty meal & it usually makes it better, I think of eating there food LOL

I've just grown out of t.v....I can have more fun jerking off then watching TV so fuck that!

Throw Away Your Television!

I hate watching television and try to avoid it at all times. I just get a nagging feeling I should be doing something better . . . like reading about stuff on the shroomery.

I'm assuming most of you guys are in the US - so I'll chip in to concur that the same is true to my knowledge in the UK. Trippers tend to have better things to do that be consumed by the goggle box.

However, my wife and I do watch a lot of films on disc and the odd boxset of a decent TV show (eg Sopranos, Six Feet Under) but TV is pretty much worthless these days.

Can't believe I used to have cable with hundreds of channels piled up with poop!

"The picture on the TV changes every five or six seconds, either by changing the camera angle or cutting to an entirely new scene," writes Moody. "One researcher refers to these events as jolts per minute, noting that as time is cut up, the brain is conditioned to change at the expense of continuity of thought.

if you are on drugs you may notice how sinister this is.

one of the first times i watched while stoned i could NOT maintain conscious awareness during commercial breaks, i simply could not grasp hold of any coherence and flickered in and out of trancey sleep states to the droning of largely incomprehensible but omnipresent voices until my program was back on.

i have just recently gotten back into tv a little bit and im sick with myself. i cant believe it ill have to stop. but yeah, a cool experiement turn off the lights and turn on the tv. now turn around and watch. you can see what hits your eyes without it actually hitting ur eyes! (it doesnt work if you are looking at the reflection in the window) depending on what show u are watching, there are some with WHITE flashes when the scenes change... that is, every time the camera changes there is at least one frame of complete white light that is too quick but in a certain state of consciousness you can see it and
it really! fucks up ur head (WHETHER U SEE (notice) IT OR NOT)

TV isn't that bad. The commercials are terrible, Hummer advertisements and Dan Marino pimping diet plans, but there are righteous channels. Discovery International, Science Channel, Sundance Channel, History Channel, etc.

I was watching a great one hour show a few hours ago about alien abductions and the surgery removals of metal(metals unknown to Earth) UFO embedments.

Television sucks. i feel like anything i really want to watch on TV i can either download or get the DVD. except for maybe sports. there's certainly something to be said about the live sports broadcasting. it's reality TV that really makes me sick to my stomach. commercials too.

I don't really watch TV.

I do watch movies though obsessively. TV shows are crap. Unless produced by HBO. I will admit to currently being addicted to six feet under.

TV has its place.

I watch movies and cool shows, but only when I am not tripping..When i trip hard I want to be camping or in the mountains or at a park..or riding a bike, outside.
I dont watch that much TV, I listen to music, and surf the internet and sometimes play video games.
But I ride my bike daily 30 minutes a night, I love it!!!
But you dont need drugs to progress in your opening your mind up. they just let you look at reality in a different way.

Watching movies while you are tripping can be awesome.  Just be careful what you watch.  I highly recommend "Shaolin Soccer."

Movies are okay, but television programming is some nasty shit. The keyword here is programming! Why ya'll think so many people are unhappy with what they got? Because they see images of what these fictional people have, and they think they've gotta live up to that.

It isn't right, it isn't human to look in on these things. However, television tends to fill several human needs, and at least one of them are voyueristic.

If I may paraphrase a T-shirt my drummer wears:
"When I got my first television set, I stopped caring so much about having close personal relationships." -Andy Warhol

This is so true. So much that is f__ked up in our (north american) society can probably be attributed to excessive television viewing.

The average american watches four hours per day; 28 hours per week (who says hillbillies cain't do math!). That's almost a full-time job (another dreadful proposition).

What would these poor people normally doing with their time?

May I suggest an author? His name is Jerry Mander; his book is 'Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television.'

This is a great book with some very salient points. I read it for a freshman comp class, and I've never looked back.
