Things in the sky

I thought Id write about something Ive seen in the sky for awhile now. Last night I was camping up in Mt St Helens watching the meteor shower. It was awesome, but not nearly as good as other ones I have seen. In watching the sky I always see these objects that are as bright as an average star, move steadily across the night sky. They are: 1 only as bright as an average star 2 make no noise 3 dont blink 4 saw 6-8 within 45 minutes last night 5 are very different from seeing an airplane (which I also saw last night) 6 tended to be moving either east-west or west-east in general.
Im thinking they are satellites? NOt really sure though, anyone have any thoughts?

Yes, satellites. Very common to see lots of them if you are camped out in a dark place and watching the night sky.

Oh, and you can also see the International Space Station when it passes by. It is very bright. Brighter then any stars and even brighter then the brightest planets (Jupiter or Venus) when conditions are right.
The neatest thing to see is watching the Space Shuttle and Space Station pass over when they are in close proximity to each other (the Shuttle is either approaching or leaving the Space Station). Then there are 2 extremely bright object passing over, one "chasing" the other.

Well whatever it is, be glad the sky is clear enough in your area to even see anything. Out here the sky is never clear really.

I would also say satellites I've seen a few go overhead. Here's a free satellite tracker online http://www.n2yo.com/?s=29251

The one that I use to find upcoming passes of the ISS or Shuttle or others (like 'Starshine') is J-Pass. Just do a google search for J-Pass, its not hard to find. Its provided by NASA and gives good skymaps/times to help you locate upcoming flyovers.
