A mate of mine asked me to ask you when the best time is to harvest Morning Glory seeds (he's seen some locally), thanks.

When the pods are dry and crispy is a good time I think. They will fall from the stem easily when ready. If there are any dried pods on my plant tommorow, I will take a picture.

"Harvesting: The seeds may be gathered as the pods become brown and dry. Immature seeds are more bitter than ripe ones. It has been reported that immature seeds contain more alkaloids, but this has not been confirmed. There are approximately 850 seeds per ounce of the Heavenly Blue variety. The stem and leaves contain some alkaloid. However, because they contain purgative principles, this part of the plant is used only in extraction. If used, pick fresh and dry quickly without heat."
"Morning glory seeds are found in seed pods which form on the plant where a pollinated flower once was. These can be produced any time in the year after flowers have formed. Watch your plant and when you see a flower fall off, remember the spot where it was. Keep your eye on that spot and in a few days or weeks, you'll see a pod form. When it's mature, it can be picked and dried. Eventually it will open and release the seeds."
All i could find GL.

You are better off harvesting them when they are immature. Wait until they are full size but the seed itself is still white. I would then chop them up and let them dry out. I used to trip off of mg's a good bit and you are best off with the immature ones.

Ok I got a picture of a pod.
It is very small and only contains one seed.It was the only dried pod on my morning glory right now though.Sorry.
This should give you a general idea of what a dried on looks like.Like I said before, the pod will just slide right off it its ready.
I have a horrible aphid infestation.I took care of it when my MG's were in a pot,but when I put them in the ground they got taken over. There are ants battling them but they seem to be low in numbers(the ants)
There are far to many leaves to spray down with tobacco water.

I'm telling you the immature ones are the way to go. Its not that the mature ones don't work. I think it might be something like mushrooms where after a crtain point it quits producing as much LSA. Plus there is no shell so to speak which is les material to digest. If you chop them up, they dry into little bits of goodness which you can just swallow. In that form it seems like its easier to pulverise for use in drinks.

I agree with you.Immature seeds are the best if you intend on ingesting them.
I am showing how to harvest seed for use in planting next season.

Hello friends. Im new to these parts and I just happened to come across a beautiful Morning Glory plant recently. I have never experienced MG although I was once a frequent mushroom user. How many of the seeds would be the equiv to five grams of dried mushrooms?
