Colorado Hunt for Fair

Here are just a couple interesting finds I came up with for the CMS Mushroom Fair (tomorrow, Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!).

First, we have Clavaria purpurea, a coral mushroom with an unusual color. These particular specimens were at the upper end of the size range for that species. The spiny stem is a wild rose.

Next we have a typical Mycena, M. overholtzii. It's actually fairly common, but it makes a pretty picture.

Finally, we have a close relative of the Chanterelle, often referred to as Pig's Ears. These are Gomphus clavatus.

If you're in the area and can make it to the Denver Botanic Gardens, drop by the Mushroom Fair and see them in person!

Happy mushrooming!

Some people get severe gastric problems from them while others find them excellent. Not tried them myself.

I've tried them, and they didn't impress. If I saw a good recipe I might try them again. As I recall, they didn't have any particular flavor. On the other hand, I know people who claim that they're among the best.

As Amatoxin said, some people have problems with eating them. If you ever get some and decide to try them, remember to try only a tiny amount the first time.

Happy mushrooming!
