My religious experience

So last night I was driving, thinking about religion and how the masses are brainwashed, and I saw a big shooting star go behind this one mountain, and I was like "Wow, what a coincidence. Do it again." and within minutes another shooting star went behind the same mountain... I was like, "woah..."

I saw a shooting star the other day too. Can't say it was a religious experience though

I usually see them in batches of several at once, when they do happen.
Certain areas where I used to camp out, I had a tent with a see through top. Used to lay and watch the stars from inside.
The camp ground was on a mountain at very high elevation. The sky was crystal clear at night.
Seemed like at least every minute we would see a shooting star out there. Sometimes one right after the other.

I don't see them as being brainwashed... just the faith they claim to want and strive for they put into believing in God, then forget to believe in themselves. But...
I saw a shooting star the other day that broke into 3 or 4 different pieces and was changing colors as it burned accross the sky. After it burnt out you could see a smoke trail. I've thought about it ever since... tripped me out.

The more trippy part of that experience is that while watching that shooting star you are actually looking into the past because of how far away they are, depending on the star it could of happend an hour before you saw it to days before you saw it.

I hate to dash the hopes and dreams of a fellow shroomerite, but we're currently in the middle of the Perseids, a meteor swarm.
During these periods many more shooting stars occur than during the rest of the year, sometimes these meteor showers are very intense, and you'll see a couple a minute.
Last night, you only saw two and they happened to be in the same region of the sky (since you were driving, I suspect that you only were looking at the part of the sky in front of you near the horizon)

A quick reminder for anyone interested, the annual Perseid meteor shower is once again upon us. Peak viewing times should be around 1-3am PST on Friday night / Saturday morning and 2-5am PST on Saturday night / Sunday morning. This year is shaping up to be a fairly good display despite the relative fullness of the moon. Certainly worth a short walk to check the skies before bed. Best viewing conditions can be found in areas with low light pollution, low humidity, and as much altitude as possible. Local weather conditions can be examined at NOAA's website.
It's raining here, so I don't expect to see anything this year

The visual delay wouldn't be too long... fractions of a second at most. An instant. The meteors burn up in our atmosphere.

Huh?!?, we must have vastly different definitions of shooting stars.

"Shooting stars" aren't actually stars. They're meteors burning up as they enter the earth's atmosphere. The earth's atmosphere isn't far enough to have any signifigant time difference.

The point applies well for regular stars, though.

Ah, I figured it was that time of year. I just happened to be driving in the right direction during the peak of a meteor shower. Le sigh.
