fridge cooling?
    #5955457 - 08/12/06 12:51 AM (17 years, 5 months ago)

i have a fridge set up as an incubator/FC... the problem is that outside temps climb so high that the inside of the whole fridge reaches high 90's... and damned near 100+

does anyone know of a method, or object (besides ice) that could automatically bring the core temp down?

FYI... it's a deep freezer, so there are empty coils running through the whole thing, and i was thinking maybe running a water pump through the coils, but then if it was an outside chamber of water, that too could warm up and cause the lack of efficient temperature alleviation.

any ideas?

I had a buddy that replaced the thermostat on his fridge so he could keep beer brewing materials at 70 degrees, if you are electrically inclined, you could maybe replace it with an AC thermostat, let the freezer run its usual way... only problem is it would probably be short bursts of freezing cold air causing the compressor to turn on and off waaaaaaaaaay more times than usual which could break circuits, be bad for the compressor etc... but I would give that a try

if i could AC the room, i would love to, but that isn't a possibility. the room it's in lacks any kind of insullation and i dont have the three hundred bills to fork over for that, plus the 100 plus for an ac... at least not at the moment.

the freon leaked out a while ago, so there are just empty tubes running through the whole thing, any ideas with that?

You can buy 4X8 ft foam sheets of insulation 2 or 3 inch's thick for about $6 or $7 a sheet. Those will insulate a small room quickly, and effectively. Running cold water through some copper tubing might help. I don't know about running cold water through the freezer plumbing? Sorry.

that'd be nice if i could do it... it has to be up to code i guess, so i have to plug in the fiberglass insulation. that's around 300 for what i need to do, though on the brighter side, i found a new location without that many temperature problems.
