liquid culture question...

Few days ago my friend shot a spore solution into a sterilized jar of vanilla liquid culture. Afterwards you could see the little black clumps of spores that were in the syringe floating around in the jar. A few days later, there seems to be some growth of mycelium floating around. In the middle of what seems to be mycelium(white fuzz) are little black specs. Are those the same clumps of spores or some other type of bacteria or mold and not mycelium?
-Thanks

if its just tiny specks of stuff and the mycelium looks healthy then i wouldnt worry about it. i had this happen to me. i think it was just sediment from the water or something. just keep an eye on it and make sure the specks dont grow

More than likely it is spores that didn't or haven't yet germinated. That happens sometimes when they're stuck in large clumps...no big deal. As long as the myc look healthy, your friend should be good to go.
Peace.

I know what mecyliam looks like and it does look healthy but, I have never seen a jar of liquid culture up close before. Thanks for your input.

Well, if that's the case, I'll have to figure out a way to stir up the clumps of spores and solution so the growing process speeds up a bit.

You didn't put any marbles or other objects in your jar to help break up the mycellium???
