Questions about Myco Bags

Hello Everyone! Well, I have been reading the boards here for a while now and I am slowly learning everything it is I need to learn. I have decided that before I start using jars I am going to play around with the Myco bags and see what I can do with them. My plan is to start 4 bags with either PR or EQ. I will be placing them in my closet in the boxes they ship in and will be placing KMart heading pads set to medium under the boxes. As I have been unable to find any one site where there are very specific instructions that attend to all of the minor details, I am asking some questions here and I would greatly appreciate any help that people have to offer. So here goes: 1) Should I have a seperate heating pad under each box or will that be too much? 2) It seems that the bags should not be exposed to light until there is a good covering of the white mycelium growth, can the bags be exposed to any light at all? I mean you do need some light to even see the white growth. Also, what is considered a good covering? Does colonization simply mean the substrate becoming white? How do you know when its almost complete and ready to be exposed to light? 3) After injecting the spores, how much should I shake the bag? Is there any other bag shaking required later on in the process? If so, how and when. 4) How do you when they are ready? Myself being unfamiliar with all this, I cant seem to picture what spores dropping would look like, anyone knows of any good pics of spores dropping? What is the veil breaking, is that when the edges of the cap start to open up and become unattached to the stem? 5) Whats the best way to reseal the bags for the next flushes? How much distilled water should be misted on the sides of the bag for each flush? 6) Does contamination only occur early on? It would seem to me that by opening the bag and resealing it you would contaminate the bag but, I am obviously wrong as many people do just that with positive results. 7) Picking the fruits: When you reach down the length of the bag do you want to sort of gently manuever the fruits out or can you just rip them out forcefully? Thanks in advance for all of your help, im sorry if I asked a lot of questions that seem stupid but, like I said im a newbie.

Just tape the box closed after you put spores in the bags... gently massage them being careful not to tear the bag. The bags will get some light because if youre like me the first time you ll open the box up daily to check for growth progress. When the bag is about 90 percent covered you then just untape the top of the box and put them in indirect or direct for that matter light. When they fruit and the veils open carefully cut the top of the bag open. After washing your hands in anti bacterial soap and alchol reach into the bag and gently twist the fruits from the base. Mist the sides of the bag and then tape or clip closed. In about a week or so you will have another flush. I hope this helps.

Great. Thanks for your help. When you say "when the bag is about 90 percent covered" you mean when the substrate turns 90 percent white? Does humidity in the room make a big difference?

I'm not expert but... 1) Not sure, but the dry heat from the heat pads can dry out the substrate. (So I've hearD) 2) Yes, you can provide enough light to check them every once in a while. You wait till the mycelium (White stuff, sort of like mycelium to shrooms as roots to plants) colonizes (Builds itself) all over the substrate (Mush growing food/home). When 90-100% of the outside of your substrate has colonized, it's time to fruit, with light. 3) The purpose of shaking the bag is to distribute the spore solution, so just shake it enough to get it around good. No shaking later on in the game unless you have colonization problems. 4) They are ready right after the veil breaks, the veil that connects the cap to the stem... look at some pictures. It's better to harvest before the spores drop. 5) They say tape so I guess it must be good enough. Just as long as it's sealed. Don't know about the water. 6) Contamination can occur any time, but after the mycelium has colonized, then it's strong enough to fight off any contams. 7) Just pinch at the base of the stem...
