Umm..... Help?
    #595329 - 04/01/02 08:27 AM (22 years, 2 days ago)

Happy Belated Easter everybody...

I spent mine indoors, hoping to finish off my first casings,

BUT...

Instead, I blew my pressure cook up... hehe. Quite dramatic!

For those new to using a pressure cooker, I have some advice:

1. Do NOT try to stuff a mammoth oven bag of peat/vermic. in said pressure cooker, especially if it's just a 7 qt. jobbie.

2. If you insist on doing #1, ensure that the emergency pressure release valve thing ISN'T BLOCKED!

I now have peat/vermic. thermally fused to my kitchen ceiling, and an irregular heartbeat from the fucking shock of it all... I was doing some dishes right next to it when she blew.

Okay, on to my actual question... I have 4 alum. trays of crumbled myc. (Ecuadors) that I was letting recover for just a bit before I added the casing layer... it has now been 2 days. The myc. looks fine, all aggressive and things... but how long will it be okay without a casing layer? I have them covered with foil at about 80-85% humid in darkness. I'm getting a new (22 qt.) PC today.

Comments? Anno? Joshua? Bueller?

Thanks in advance...

They should be fine. They will just continue to grow some cotton looking mycelium and might dry out a little bit. When you case it, they should do fine. Obviously don't leave them like this for weeks at a time, but a couple of days-week, shouldn't bother them.

Heh... thanks, Xazia...

Yep, 'twas scary for sure... it was REALLY loud, but the only thing that really happened is that the little plastic (?) emergency pressure release thing blew out (and upwards) and a good portion of the oven bag and dish towel extruded themselves through the subsequent now hole in the lid... be careful out there kids!
