temperature variation causing decrease in potency?

Can a variation in temperature cause a decrease in potency. I'm talking a variation of about 20 degrees. From about 58F to 78F while fruiting. The potency of these were very weak. All grow on Brown Rice flour. If I control the temp. and keep it at about 74, can I expect more potent fruit. Should I try a different substrate?

nope.
when the temp dropped, it may have slowed growth for the period it was cooler. other than that, it would have little to no effect.
i assure you it has nothing to do with potency.
a different substrate, will not make a substantial difference either.
your mushroom's genetics play the biggest role and if you started from spores, you simply had random genetics and possibly bad luck. you could do everything the same exact way again, and end up with exceptionally potent mushrooms. its just the nature of things.
more advanced methods including cloning and isolation, help you to get consistent results, rather than taking the gamble of random spore matings.

IMO temp dose not effect potency. ive had some outside patches that droped below 70 deg. and were just fine. BRF (brown rice flow) isnt a very good substrate for producing potent shrooms. for your next grow look into useing grain. such as wild bird seed, rye berries, corn.. they might sound complicated when you read the tec's but they are easier and faster to make/use than BRF IMO.. then once you get grains down spawn some to poo.. then you will have no problems w/ potency.
thats just hope it helps out some..

I am not lost.. i am going there looking for it.. and when i get there and find it, i will know what it is.. "The way to stop violence is not to go out and let your head be beaten in but to say, you want to take my life risk yours!" "are you sure u want to eat all them shrooms??" "yes i want to hear what my mind has to say..." remember opions are like assholes, everyone has one and they all stink.
