i need an answer kinda quickly. i've just prepared some mycobags (WBS and vermiculite)
i'm about to pressure cook them but i am afraid that steam might get into the bags and make them waterlogged.
what should i do so that i don't get waterlogged bags? do i need to put any tape over the top of the bag?
all advice is greatly appreciated

fold the top of the bag over 2 or three times, and hold in place with clothes pins
i use 4, one on each end, and two in the middle.

cheers captain
blue helix's "preparing spawn bags" is what i am attempting (attempting being the key word).
its just that in the past i have had PF jars etc waterlogged from steam getting in. is this a major problem? i put a fair amount of verm in them the bags to stop this happening.

thank you! that sounds like it should work. i'll give it a try.
to avoid starting another thread, how long would a mycobag of prepared WBS and verm last without being pressure cooked? i only ask because the WBS might sprout???
what about after being pressure cooked and impulse sealed?
cheers everyone

Without being pressure cooked, you need to worry about fermentation and contamination more than the seeds sprouting. After sterilization, you should use the bags as soon as possible, just like you would with jars. The fresher, the better.

i like this tek. it just seems easier than trying to impulse seal a bag before any contams enter. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/562556#Post562556 plus you can reuse the bags this way.

I seal the filter patch bags with a piece of wire after inoculating. I just wrap the wire around the end of the bag like a twist tie on a loaf of bread, after first inflating the bag in front of the flowhood so there is a plenum of sterile air within.
This allows me to open the bag in front of the flow hood at fruiting time to exchange the air, then seal it back up.
As said above, fold the bag over several times before PC'ing, then set a plate or something on top of the bags to press the folded seal flat. I use no clothespins, only the flat seal which seems to work well as long as something is holding it closed. Be sure to PC long enough as spawn bags hold more than jars. When I PC four spawn bags with six pounds of spawn or wood chips/sawdust each, I go for 3 1/2 hours at fifteen psi. Use some rings from your jars to stuff between the bags to separate them so steam can penetrate throughout the PC and on all sides of each bag. RR
