help with paper chromatography - which paper and solvents?

hello, some days ago i caught myself having fun on making paper chromatography with various ethnobotanical samples (ok, i admit i did the pen/ink experiment too) and i got some pretty chromatograms on coffee filter (eck)with 92% alcohol. with pure DCM (methylene chloride) as solvent i didn't get a clear separation of the compounds but with 3:2 alcohol (92%)/DCM it worked pretty fine. but i have some questions:
1) am i going to see all the components with the solvents i am using? i fear to miss compound spots due to a poor solvent choice.
2) what is the best kind of paper i can use? the guy at the chemical store asked me which kind and i didn't know what to answer so i decided to research more (i found nothing around the web on paper kinds)... so here is my research. would common lab filter paper work well?
thanks for the attention,
FH

Skip using paper. Buy some silica gel TLC plates on Ebay.

I will try and help.Keep in mind that i will offer only basic information on the subject...
The wikipedia entry on chromatography : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paper_chromatography
I assume you know this already.
Here is a more practical guide although very limited on the paper :
http://www.sciencebuddies.org/mentoring/project_ideas/Chem_Chromatography_resources.shtml
100 sheets for 30 dollars? I bet you can afford it http://www.sciencekit.com/category.asp_Q_c_E_431677 and the can become 200 if you cut them in half.I guess thats enough for starting off!
Now i didnt have time to present you with the "best of" this site but im sure your searching and sorting skills are fine so you can search this page : http://www.hplcweb.com/About_Chromatography/
From online books and guides to animations!
Also here is a nice handout : http://peer.tamu.edu/podium_poster_presentations/Paper%20Chromatography%20Handout.doc
Also search for Whatman chromatography papers and Schleicher & Schuellchromatography paper
