Interesting thread.
I'm about to begin my grow.
Is fan drying sufficient (especially since the fall is upon us with lower humidity)

ive made many drying systems of various styles, the best of which could get them dry in about 2.5 days.
i got a food dehydrator recently, and it is the shizzit. <1 day to cracker fruits. $5 at goodwill. quieter than any fan system, and takes up less space. and you dont even need the desicating chamber. best investment ive made in a long time.

What if it doesn't have a temp. setting. I can make beef jerky in 12 hours. So like 2 hours would be good?

jerky shroom dry ratio is exactly 6:1 so yes, 2 hours was a dead on guess.
jp. you can't let it get past 100. i wouldn't let it go past 95 personally. maybe dry out a thermometer first, just to be sure of the temps?
good luck petri face.

I really don't know how much the temp matters. Although it will inevitable break down at some temperature, I personally have never noticed any difference in ones dried at 125-135 the major difference is they dry in 12 hours. Maybe there is a difference, I wouldn't really know, all I know is you can still get potent guys from 135
*edit* a little search and I do know exactly how much heat they can take! Re: Will low heat affect potency? Answer=No Amazing what a wealth of information the shroomery contains and how easily accessible it is!

Food dehydrator. I have a Nesco. the *marts carry 'em and you can get extra trays; once in a while you can snag those at the thrift shop. (Was it Road or agar that has a 12-stack?)
Keep it set on the lowest heat setting which is 95 degrees F.

I use the fan on the rear of my pc for a day or two, and then I store them in a desiccant chamber.
A friend of mine uses a freeze dryer.. now THAT is awesome.

my preferred drying method is to lay out the shrooms on the kitchen table
i sit at one end, and have your mom sit down on the opposite end
i then ask her how her day was
more than enough hot air to get them cracker dry in no time flat
but when your mom is busy with one of her clients, fan & desiccant works.
