the news said it was some kind of peroxide based chems. but didnt say much more.. other that the terrorists, were going to carry different components , then when they were on board, they would mix them together to form the bombs.

Tricyclic acetone peroxide. Certainly not a household chemical but it can be made with paint thinner. It is highly unstable, eliminating the need for a sophisticated detonator or secondary explosive. It could also be prepared in mid-flight although it is more stable when its wet I think.

The Bobbies over in London busted a group of 20 or so camel jockies who were set to blow up some airliners over the atlantic. Apparently, it was a pretty advanced plot, the group was going to do a dry run w/out bombs in just a few days.
The people here are talking about what explosive they were going to use. The Government has said that they were using a liquid explosive, which is actually a really good idea. You could just bring it on your carry on water bottle or whatever. So now you cant bring any carry on liquids on yoru flight with you...

Some speculations on WikiNews:
"The suspected terror plot involved concealing a liquid or gel explosive inside a modified sports beverage drink container and using a electronic device like a flash from a disposable camera as a trigger.
ABC News is reporting that the plotters planned to leave the top of the bottle sealed and filled with the original beverage but add a false bottom, filled with a liquid or gel explosive. The terrorists planned to dye the explosive mixture red to match the sports drink sealed in the top half of the container.[2]
There are several different types of liquid or gel based explosives and government sources have not released information regarding the type the terrorists were using. Some reports mention a peroxide-based solution so it may be Methyl ethyl ketone peroxide, which is a high explosive in the form of a colorless, oily liquid at room temperature and pressure. It is related to acetone peroxide which is an old standby for various terrorist organizations because of the fact that it can be made from fairly common household items.
Other types of liquid explosives include: Astrolite, Ethylene glycol dinitrate, Oxyliquit, and various types of Sprengel explosive."

Honestly, it's so damn easy to blow things up that there's always going to be a vulnerability somewhere. Banning everything that could possibly hold a bomb just isn't possible.
10 years from now am I going to have to leave my body behind when I want to fly somewhere? I could cram a wad of C4 up my ass and blow a hole in the fuselage, so obviously humans mustn't be allowed on planes.
