My friend ordered some pre sterlized brown rice flower jars and they came without holes in the lid. What is the best way to punch holes in the lids without contamination?

Well, you can spend money on a center hole punch. Or else you can take a pick/scratch awl, hold it over a flame for a bit, then wipe it off with some alcohol on a paper towel to make sure its sterile.
Then take a hammer, and I'm pretty sure you can figure out the rest. I highly reccomend wiping everything down with alcohol before this, and having a nice sterile work area. I've had contams because I poked my holes without sterilizing everything before. Just be careful, use the sterile techniques you've seen, and you should be fine.

A word of advice:
An investment into a Pressure cooker instead of pre-sterilized substrate ends up paying off much better, and you wouldn't run into problems such as this :P
Best of luck. I would drill the holes with a sterilized drill around the same time of inoculation. Keep it clean and keep the patience. Hope it works out.

I agree that making your own is the way to go, but I personally also started off with premade jars It takes the worry out of it for that ever-so-intimidating first grow, especially if you're not sure the hobby is for you. Plus it saves you from buying a PC for that very first grow... I'd hate to see someone buy a brand new AA only to find out they hate growing, haha.
