Anyone tried this??? Found some prime specimens but I'm kind of put off by the smell, tasted awful when I sampled a knife tip too...

Edible and excellent, although the briny taste deters some people.

Hmmmm....

Maybe it loses the bad smell and taste through cooking though? I dunno.

They are very firm, meaty looking shrooms though

I've found them a bunch of times in Denver, but always in habitats where I won't consider eating them. In grass in traffic islands, for example, where I know the soil is likely to be high in neat things like Lead.

Others I know have found them in places where it would be OK to eat them from and reported that they were pretty good.

The ones I find have an unpleasant odor and a very firm, rubbery texture. Also, they bruise an almost pumpkin orange.

The ID was confirmed (although he didn't use a microscope, so it's not fair to say it's a 100% ID) by Dr Rick Kerrigan, whose specialty is the genus Agaricus.

Happy mushrooming!

Hmmm, well... the bet way to find out is to sample! Saute one up and give it a try.
Taste is a subjective matter, you are the only pertinent judge.
