I haven't seen a single mainstream news source pick up on this story. Of all the searches I do, every single one points back to "wnd.com". Can you please provide a reference for this story outside of "wnd.com" to validate the claims?
If this were true, then every major news source, the ACLU, the NAACP, and any other group of letters you can think of would be working themselves into a freenzy.

possibly they would.
I don't know I just found a link to it and decided to paste it. Conspiracies aside its obvious the media has a selective memory and agenda in discussing and not discussing certain things, but it should make its way to other sources, you're right about that too.

FEMA Lifts Reporter Ban - posted by worldnetdaily.com 10 hours and 18 minutes after the original story.
http://www.theadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060727/OPINION01/607270306/1014
article from a lafayette paper about the lifting of the restriction.
sounds like more zombie out-of-touch feds who don't know they're doing something stupid until a bunch of congressmen get on their case about it. a little frightening. at least nobody got killed this time. the idea that these are going to be the kind of people on the scene taking charge of things if shit really hits the fan doesn't exactly fill me with confidence and feelings of security.

I worked for FEMA after Katrina. They should put that POS to rest.
Worst Organization Skills Ever!
They authorized $3 dollar as square foot, for roof tarping. 'Operation Blue Roof' That's more than it would cost to put a new roof on the houses.
BUT... Fema Decides that they will farm out the work to contractors. I worked for a sub-contractor, who took orders from a sub-contractor, who took their orders from another subcontractor, who got paid by FEMA's choice of contractor.
So instead of getting paid anywhere near $3 per sq. I got paid .02cents. Before I said fuck it, i started working for a different contractor who was paying .03cents per square.
Thats a 50% pay increase.
After a few more days @ .03, and the continued lack of organization, i was ready to give up. I was not the only one to quit.

you know this country is going in the shitter when regular citizens can't figure out how to get their shit together and patch holes in their roofs with plastic tarps without the federal government holding their hands.

Its not that they couldn't tarp there own houses. There were NO tarps to be bought. We had EVERYONE trying to buy our FEMA tarps, but of course we needed them for our work orders.
We were going to try to sell our scraps, but we had to turn them in.
PLUS, they didn't even try to hire 'locals' from New Orleans , EVERYONE was from out of town.
Also, You could only tarp 'Living Area'. SO FUCKING STUPID. I quote 'living area' because its so ridiculous. IF your garage has your Washer & Dryer inside, it counts as living area.
No W&D, no Tarp!
Like i give a shit where you keep your W&D!
I'm suppose to check...Fuck off.
If your roof is one solid piece, and you have an overhang over your front door, we had to stop the tarp where the 'living area' stopped. Even if it was only 2 feet more. STUPID
I was a roofer, not a bureaucrat, not Martha Stwart. I don't care how you decorate your house.

Actually, this presents an interesting discussion.
Should government play any role whatsoever in responding to catastrophic disasters? I mean, several things were required after Hurricane Katrina. The national guard, for one thing had to secure the lawlessness of New Orleans (even if it was hyped in the media at the time). Rescue helicopters were needed by the dozens and they don't come cheap. Sometimes situations call on the assistance of whoever has the most available resources, and unfortunately in this day of age it is the government.

Yes, but once the immediate rescue was done they became more of a burden than a help. Excess regulation prevented people in the field from making judgements appropriate to each situation. And then there is the issue of corruption, for which New Orleans is famous, and rightfully so. The Big Easy indeed

Heres a good one.
Most of the houses we first started going to got there 'estimate' after Katrina but before Rita. Well like most things, if you you don't fix something right away, it is going to get a lot worse. We would get 'Work Orders' for a 90sqft patch, but we would get to the house and it would need 750sqft. Because the estimate was off by a lot, we would need to have a suppervisor come out and approve it.
No one knew there way around New Orleans, It took us 45 minutes just to find the house. Now we would have to wait until our bosses found the house.

So since everyone was from out of town, driving though the city was like being in a mall on December 23. We would sit and wait to cross the Huey P. Long bridge for at the very least 30 minutes. Once it was two hours. Me and another guy got out and walked to an Arby's, got carry out, and walked back to the Truck with lunch for everyone, which was had only moved 500-700ft.
Curuption = Huey P. Long in Lousiana, Its just another jab in the ribs that i had to wait to cross this bridge, just to get to work.
BTW, that ARBY's was offering a $6,000 dollar singing bonus for starting to work there (payed over one full year). First time I've ever seen a signing bonus at a fast food chain, but they were really desperate for workers.
That just another sad note IMHO Wal-mart was ALWAYS packed, Home Depot PACKED, Walgreens, packed, McDolands, Burger King, Arby's PACKED; PB, SHELL, Marathon, always packed, always waiting in line for gas.
But all the mom and pop stores All the home grown authentic New Orlean businesses all closed. I bet they still have not opened.
Just bad all the way around.
