how long can u store a fully colonized quart jar of mycleim? and still take grain from it for a g2g transfer and be viable?..
also theoretically you can do g2g transfers an indefinate amount of time? just like clones of clones of clones ..

1. best stored in the fridge it will last longer. 2. you can store it up to several months and still be viable. 3. yes but eventually the mycelium will become weak after several generations.

I stored my colonized WBS jars in the fridge for 2 weeks and they turned yellow. Doesn't look like contamination, more like piss. I check the temp and its at 40F. Should it be colder?

just a note. generally, myco networks tend to lose their vigor with age.

I recently brought some rye jars out of the refrigerator after nearly two years and they were fine. Of course, they've lost their vigor so I won't use them to expand the mycelium, but only to get a flush so I can get prints to start over. It's a great way to save a strain. I have a dedicated small fridge in my lab that is only used for mycology and kept at 35F.
You can't do g2g forever. I never do more than two, then fruit. Commercial growers go for three, but they have stainless steel walls and concrete floors that can be power washed every day. The rest of us have wall to wall carpet, dogs and cats, moldy fruit in the kitchen, etc. Clones of clones of clones, etc., also run out of vigor. Remember, a clone is the same mycelium, and it can only divide cells so many times before it kicks the bucket. RR

to be honest, with clones i've yet to see any loss in vigor or yeild (we're talking marijauna). from my experiance it's definatly a myth probably started by some of the breeders or someone without little experiance. been growing for over 3 years now. have a strain that's been grow many years before that. i'm probably on the 10th generation alone.
but i see what you're saying about with mycliem. best bet is probably to fruit like you said then take some prints. but we'll see either way much appreciated.
