ok so i got bored one day and decided to take some grass from a compost pile in my back yard and use it to spawn a brf cake to. i took the grass and soaked it over night in water then took it and filled a 5 x 5 inch tupperware with the grass. i took the brf cake and cut it into 1/2 inch cubes and mixed it with the grass...i did NOT pasturize the grass or sterilize it in anyway. in fact i sneazed directly into this while i was doing it. i wrapped it in saran wrap and its been about a week and its nearly completely colonized iwith no signs of contaminants. is this just my luck or are contaminants going to show up. im pretty amazed that tyhey havent already and im hoping it can hold out another few days. is partially degraded grass clipping a good substrate anyway? potency? anyone have any expeirince?

depending on the environment they live in, some people can pretty much get away with doing anything without worry of contams. however, it's always a good idea to take any precautions against contams that you have at your disposal. If not, there will come a day you wish you had.

I can't speak from experience, but I don't believe that grass clippings are going to provide nearly enough nutrients to your mushrooms.

If it works through till completion, you are likely to have unpotent results... however +karma for the experimentation!!  :sun:

Teonanacatl, open up my eyes
This sacrament, this prayer, beyond the world of lies
Guide me clearly through that which I dont understand
Give me strength to find the path
Help me fight any demons as you flow through me wholely
This is my prayer, that you protect me from evil, and bring me closer to peace
And open up my eyes, so i can see things as you do
Amen

Who knows actually. I mean obviously there are much more nutritious substrates which you can use, but technically straw isn't too much more than old grass itself. (Or wheat I guess, but still) If straw can give nice results, I don't imagine this decomposing grass would be the worst thing you could be using.

good luck and keep us updated
