A bit of a concern about millet bursting during simmer...

I just got done with a batch of quart WBS jars.. this is my second run with bird seed, I used Doc's Wild Bird Seed Tek for the second time but I seemed to maybe get a bit more bursted grains during my simmering process. The tek reccomends around 5%, but I think I'm more around 10. I was wondering how detrimental bursted or popped millet is to the colonization process. Scrap the jars? (although they're already inoculated) or should things be okay? I can upload a photo if you're really curious, but I'd rather not mess with them
Thanks

9/10 times they'll be fine. It can make colonization times slower, but not necessarily.

If you'll soak the grains before the simmer, it softens them first so they don't burst. I have zero tolerance for burst kernels. They spill out starches, that make it very hard for the mycelium to colonize. Uncolonized starches are prime breeding grounds for bacteria. RR
