Newbie with substrate questions...

A friend of mine has 12 inoculated jars of assorted strains that are fully colonized. He has grown with the pf style in a small chamber before, but this time he is using trays of horse poo substrate for fruiting. Today he got the horse poo (dry) from a friend but it is mixed with stable shavings and straw as well. Question is does this sound like an ok mixture for a substrate? Mostly horse poo clumps but he is new to this so any feedback would be wonderful.

yes its a fine mix.
pick out any big sticks or foreign objects obviously.
shred it up to a nice soil like consistency. hydrate, pasteurize, and spawn.

Most poo from stables comes mixed like this... You can either use it straight, or before you pasteurize cut it with vermiculite or even more straw (cut into small pieces) to make it last longer. Popular additives include less then 3% blood meal, black mustard seed, and algit kelp meal. Another 2-3% Stevia leaf adds to potency as well (all additives added AFTER pasteurization, when spawn is mixed with poo). Good luck!

The best h/poo, is UNADULTERATED h/poo.
Dried bone dry, so it has no urine/fecal odor.
 Then shredded
Wood shavings, hay & anything else that did not pass THROUGH the horse. Is not bio-degraded.
Sure, you can use what you have.
But, unadulterated shredded nuggets & muffins are optimal.
See if your buddy can get you some
You will not regret it.
Also, be careful of adding things. 1st go, I would not add anything. Wait until you have a few grows finished. BEFORE you start tinkering with additives. To many additives, or the wrong kind can cause bad things.
