Is this reishi?

Okay, so I dumped a LOT of reishi spore solution all over this stump. After about a month, what looked like reishi mycelium began forming on the the top of the stump. Now, that bit looks like this:

And these look like conks, but, the color seems off:

Any idea what these are? Thanks.

At first glance those look like Trametes, Turkey Tails (and relatives).
Happy mushrooming!

I was gonna say turkey tails too. Take a side picture. Are they thin like potato chips? Turkey tails often are not much thicker than piece of paper. Reishi will be thicker and usually has that varnish red/brown on the stem.
However, that's a massive growth in that one area, which indicates is a product of your spores. It definitely doesn't look natural. RR

Yeah. That's the weird thing--I mean, I literally dumped a couple of quarts of dense spore water all over this stump. I can't understand how it couldn't be reishi, given the way the mycelium developed and looked. But it definitely doesn't have a normal color to it. I was wondering if the color might be due to the stump's composition, but, I'm just baffled. I can go out and get a side shot. I'll post it later. Thanks.

Turkey Tail...here's one of my pics of it. Nearly identical:

On that note...I didn't realize Turkey Tail was a choice edible. Is it any good?

It's hard to believe that they could be good to eat.
But here's a recipe which I now quote from Mushrooms Demystified for them:
"Boil for 62 hours, squeeze thoroughly, and serve forth."
That sounds about right to me. They have a texture like wood or hardened leather.
Happy mushrooming!

Well, here's a side view (not great). They're quite thin and "ruffley", to use a technical term.

So this looks like Turkey Tail to people? Does this species have that "blob up" sort of off-white mycelium very similar to reishi mycelium?
And how could I make a solid ID on this?
Thanks!

Start by making a spore print. It is kind wierd tho, is it possible that the stump was already colonised by the other fungus?

Maybe--this stuff just popped up and I assumed it was reishi because of the way the mycelium looked at first, and that I'd inoculated the stump with all of that spore water. I mean, you'd think a FEW of those millions of spores would have germinated in what are good environmental conditions. Dunno. There's a piece of fallen oak branch that might have some reishi growing on it, too, that I think I sprayed down with the spore water.
I'll keep checking and see how the spores turn out. Cheers.

Those are turkey tails.
I've got them popping up in my area too.

I dry mine out, grind them up and make tea with them...although an aquired taste, it's not bad. They actually use these mushrooms to aid in the treatment of certain types of cancer.

They are NOT a choice edible. They are classed as purely MEDICINAL People make tea out of them or powder and capsulate.
