is anyone else tired of all the crap on tv? i know if i dont like it i dont have to watch it but my friends still watch it and people are constantly making references to it and quoting various tv characters, etc. i dont think exposing youself to all the mindless garbage they show on tv everyday is good. sometimes i turn it on and go through 50 or so channels without finding anything good to watch. i wonder why there aren't more quality programs, like why isn't there a science channel for instance?

I don't know, but I haven't watched T.V. over a couple months now, which is kind weird, but in a good way,
I think you get tired of that stuff and it becomes something not very enjoyable
I'd say just stop watching altogther, I only watch certain sports, UFC is cool, also the latest movies that come out on DVD are good for visual viewing, I think T.V. is an overblown concept,
people should read more, or be on the computer,
TV is good for after work or something, to relax too, but as all day affair, its just too weak

all the reality tv shows are gonna drive me crazy. or the shows that talk about nothing but celebrities. do any of us really care about a celebrity's life that much? also day time talk shows like dr. phil are annoying to me.
only thing i like to watch are cartoons (make me laugh, often creative) and educational programs (love learning about the universe or plant life). although we recently cut back to just basic cable, so don't get to see many cartoons now. i think cable companies should let you just pay for the channels you want and not have to order 60+ channels that most of the time you won't watch. i've read that some cable companies might soon do this.
overall though, i think going to see a movie, getting outside, or reading a book are better options. i often feel like i'm wasting time when i watch tv.

I dare assume that you are American..
Well.. Maybe I do not.
But, anyways..
I recommend, watching a series, from the pilot, to say episode 4-5-6? Then if you still "hate" it, you could label it as crap..
In Norway, the cable, is provided most places.. with a "basic pack". It got 18 channels or so..
And yes, that is what I got. (Can afford.) So I got like 4 channels, to watch.. (showing movies) And this (again based upon my assumption), may be very different form you? (Americans?)
As you got like 100 channels, and can pick the program-type, by the channel? We started getting this in Norway as I grew older, but still to expensive for me..
I still drop jaws, when I see anything above having 20 channels on the TV...
Back to the recommendations;
Like.. Have you seen all the first episodes of "my name is earl" .. of "Bones" .. of "prison brake" ..
I just wonder..

I watch PBS and sports. Everything else is pretty worthless.

I thoroughly enjoy television. While there is an enormous crap to good stuff ratio, it has gotten to the point where we have so many channels that there is always something good on. I love sports, Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs, Seinfeld, and various other shows.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still a reader. I've read more than 6,000 page in the last few months, so I think my time spent reading is still much greater than watching tv.

Cesar Milann is pretty good.
But they have scary commercials about some spy sending secrets to THE EVIL ONE and I'm like ughhh you bastards! It doesn't affect me but I worry about it's impact on the feeble nation.
the evil one isn't evil, nor is our leader. that's how i feel anyway.
i touched the tv in my dreams last night and it made my hands hurt real bad and feel strange. i decided to use it as a vehicle for teleportation as a sort of strange joke.
but yeah i went through this and i decided, no more TV. ....... unfortunately my family has decided, lots of TV....... so it is hard to be around the incessant distracting noises. it's quite hard to deal with..... and i accept it but then i wonder should i accept it?
like i watched Blazing Saddles with them and even that felt wrong, with how loose the women were dressed and all the crude racial humor. I found the Sheriffs cocky and idealist mannerisms very humorous though.
But what I really wanted to say is last night I got a black and white view of the Psycho house, and I saw Mr. Hitchcock.... and I thought... this is such an acclaimed movie, it is considered art..... but the entire movie is focused around a gruesome, cold, cruel, and horrible act of violence against a human being.....
what kind of man is driven to make such an art form, and to do it in such a way? I got strong chills looking "Into" who this Hitchcock was....... I do not know if that's just because the film traumatized me in childhood, or what...
but it bears a strong reflection upon society when, even back in the 60s, something like this is heralded as art, and given a place atop our highest positions......... I do not deny it is a skillful film, but......
if you really stay away from TV long enough you realize "these idiotic humans enjoy watching other humans die, and they can even herald it as fine art!" and you look at the shower scene in psycho..... and that is hell you know?
Why do we put hell on a pedastol? And much as the song scares me, VIcarious just seems to be more and more applicable.
and I went on my TV crusade before the song came out even....... but yet the song seems to be just as much of a warning to the TV hater, saying "look at your judgement, these are the emotions you are holding too!"
I will give random Kudos to: Stella (from the tiny amount of episodes I've seen, and wonder if it's still on?) , My Name is Earl. The Office (even though I hear the foreign one is much better). Arrested Development (though it gave me an enormously strange, scary, hopeless [but with a way out], and at times Biblical trip, since the character is called Job (Gob)...... Futurama (no Family Guy, this show is a poser show now, not because of popularity, but because of ripping itself off too much and delving into cheap laughs .... though it can sometimes have some good stuff). King of the Hill.
I also wonder.... the idea of staring into a fixed location and seeing things is so strange, that I wonder why the nation is so against acid and psychedelics?
-------------------- I am the MacDaddy of Heimlich County, I play it Straight Up Yo! ....I embrace my desire to feel the rhythm, to feel connected enough to step aside and weep like a widow, to feel inspired, to fathom the power, to witness the beauty, to bathe in the fountain, to swing on the spiral of our divinity and still be a human...... Om Namah Shivaya, I tell you What!
