Is this vermiculite too coarse?

I just got it in from Amazon.com, decided to try a different brand this time since the last one seemed too fine. It's huge though, it's listed as medium grade but there are huge chunks;

Cool, thanks unkempt.. I'm gonna mix some with what I have left of my real fine verm (only like enough for 2 jars) and finish up a few more jars tonight. I tried searching for 'coarse vermiculite' and didn't turn anything up.

Can't tell anything from the pics. You need to put a coin or dollar bill or something in the picture for reference. Generally though, course is better. RR

dont mix up your fine verm with that... save it for the dry verm layer at the top, the fine stuff is less porous than the coarse stuff and does a good job up there

looks good. with coarse verm, your not as likely to get things packed too tight. all those empty spaces are great for myc. growth.

oh and PS, the trick to mixing that stuff is adding your water to the verm first, then slowly sprinkle on the brf while you mix...

That will be great for mixing with peat for a casing, but use finer grade if it's for pf tek or the verm barrier on top. RR

Ahh, I love this place. I'll save what's left of my fine verm for the top dry layer . Still doing the PF tek, I'm still in my first month of growing, but should be experimenting with casings soon. Thanks guys!
