using an agar wedge
    #593840 - 03/30/02 06:20 PM (15 years, 4 months ago)

Ok, so after someone has obtained his desired growth on an agar plate and he has decided that he is ready to transfer it to a quart of ..... birdseed lets say, how does he prepare the wedge? I have heard the process for just transfering a wedge, but it seems like putting that small of an amount into a quart of substrate would take a very long time to get going. Do you have to cut up your wedge and then shake it into your spawn? or just drop it on top and wait till it colonizes to shake it and get it going?

Cut up several wedges and place them in your jars and give a light shake then put it away for 10 days then take it out and have a look then shake again and put it away and check ever 3 days or so after that

i'd shake the jar when i see that 20-30% of the grain is colonized, then wait until complete colonization....

well, thats the thing

after you get one inoculated, you start bulking it
take that colonized jar, then go into 5

fruit 4, take one and put it into 5 more
etc
the strain however will get degenerated.

although, i find 1st gen is not as good as 2nd gen spawn
but im a newbie

thanks for the info everyone. i will let you guys know how it goes. i will be putting them in the jars in a few days. as for a previous thread of mine, a 1/2 pint jar will colonize a quart of birdseed in about 2 weeks. thanks everyone again. if any established members would like an isolated strain of EQ's please PM me. I will post pictues of the fruits as soon as they come.
