Humidity a factor in incubator?
    #5938124 - 08/06/06 07:36 PM (17 years, 5 months ago)

I have all my jars in a great big indoor green house (pic below)

http://www.geocities.com/ghettoyhetti2000/p8050011.jpg

Whenever my poop from Tennstud gets here I was going to use the closet as a fruiting chamber as well as an incubator.

I have an air purifier/ionizer in there at the bottom and there is a 4 1/2" hole for ventillation at the top I stuffed with polyfill for air exchange. Once I mix up my myc with poop to fruit I will still have a bunch of other jars in there just incubating... as far as lighting, I'm using a 15 watt pet light mounted at the top and I'm using "curtains" (maybe paint) and a piece of cardboard to confine the light to just the top shelf.

So basically the whole closet will be 95% humidity and 85 degrees and only the top shelf will have light... is that ok for the jars that are incubating? Should I take them out and stick them in a box? The whole room is kept at 85 degrees... Thanks for everyones' help so far.

PS I picked up that indoor greenhouse for $19.99 at my local super fresh and it is awesome!!! 66" high, 44" wide and 24" deep!!! :tongue2:

incubate with warmth, about 80-83F, try to do so in the dark and without the extra
humidity, you are trying to incubate in a fruiting setup, search for TiT, the tub
n tub incubator is a great way to go

What about a tub as the incubator inside the closet with a layer of perilite/vermiculite mixed with drierite like 1" deep at the bottom and 2 or 3 large sized holes cut in the tub stuffed with polyfill?

not clicking that link...

however.

jars should be at around 82 degrees, not 85.
they are hotter in the center.

bulk poo trays should sit at around 75 degrees.
at 85 degrees, they are likely to cook themselves to death.

humidity in an incubator is a bad idea anyway.
it will wet any filter material allowing contams to enter the jars.

having light on incubating jars is not a problem.

do some searching and some reading.

I suggest letting your jars sit out in a room on a shelf or in your closet. Or in a box or whatever.
Keep your poo trays off the ground if you can and keep them cool.
Like around 75, as I said above.
Fruit in the green house at 75-90 with your humidity at 90% or so with cased substrates.

After some research it'll all come to you.

Ok thanks for the advice... the link is fine.. it's oldschool geocities haha... anyway, I will try that. This is my first time actually trying this but I read all of lg nicholas' psilocybin mushroom handbook and bits and pieces of stamets' "the mushroom cultivator" plus hours of reading on here... guess you can't buy hands-on experience. Thanks again!
