casing a cake? worth while tek?

I recently had a first flush with P strain from PF with success, finally!
When I first birthed them they had no vermiculite on them and were set on a plastic lid, nothing happened until 4 days later I removed them from the lid and put on a new lid with a sprinkle of vermiculite on the bottom and top of the cake. This I think is what they were missing to initate pinning.

Ok with that in mind please let me know what you think of this idea, insted of just puting vermiculite on the top and bottom roll the cake in sterilized vermiculite, covering the entire thing in vermicultie.

Would this cause the entire cake to pin instead of just the top? because I notice that there are only pins where there is vermiculite.
