So i went golfing yesterday and twinged a muscle something fierce on my upper back. Its on my left side on the inside of the scapula near the spine.
Anyone have any suggestions for stretches or exercises to loosen it up? I was thinking about getting back out and playing today, but id at least like the pain to go away for a bit.

That sucks. I'm not really sure about exercises, but I didn't know you were a golfer. I've been dying to get my clubs, dust them off and play. Been a long time.
The bath idea sounds pretty good.. I usually get in hot tub when I feel sore. Might at least provide some temporary relief.

Most bathroom style tubs are too small anyway.
It gets frustrating to me trying to lay in those things.. I'm to tall for it.

yah, my knees are always bent, i can never just float in the water. Plus lying around in your own dirty bathwater never seemed appealing. Every time i took a bath id always run the shower real quick before i stepped out.
I know that warm water helps and all, but was just wondering if there were any stretching exercises i should be doing rod. When i get a crick in my neck my friend showed me a bunch of stretches to make it a lot less painful

JUst simple stretching and a hot bath or shower.
Before playing golf next time try stretching to prevent this from happening again.

Befor stretching try massaging it the shower. Remember stretching will delay the healing process.

Corporal- sucks doesnt it? It's like having an itch you cant scratch
Kapt kid- I always stretch before golfing, it's part of my warmup routine since the course im a member at is sans driving range. Always do lower and upper back stretches, torso twists, calf and glut stretches, and then a few soft, medium, and hard practice swings to get loose. Summertime rough gets thick around here, i most likely pulled that muscle on #15 which is a 500 yard par 5. I noticed my shoulder feeling a bit funny after i ripped a 4 iron 200 yards out of the first cut of rough.
Either or the suggestions helped. I popped 4 ibu's, took a 20 minute scorching hot shower. Stretched my upper back for about 5 minutes, and then i hit the course to play 27. Lost a bit of distance on my drive since i was cutting my shoulder turn a bit, but i was still able to hit the ball solidly. Too bad i didn't hit a single one putt all day. Then when i did start playing good and caught a very sweet rythym, i hit a fivesome who couldnt hit a golf ball if i payed them to do it. It really sucks being even par through 5 holes only to sit on tee box after tee box for five minutes, and then after the drive sit on the fairway for another 5 to 10 as they bumbled their way around the green.
I swear, if i ever run or own a golf course im making a mandatory rule that all players, members or not, have to pass an etiquette course to play. It really sucks going out to play and having your game ruined by people who don't understand that a single golfer who can play decently will always play faster then a group of golfers no matter their skill level.
