Hi Im new on here and just made a poor mans pod for a freind. Im using about 1" of water to 1" of perlite. I bought a cheap hydrometer/thermometer from walmart to see what every thing is running at. I figured I would run the thing for a little while and see what the temp and RH would be. well the rh is a 60% and temp is at 73.8 no water droplets have formed at all and Im worried the humidity is to low for growth. does any one know why the humidy is so low? please help the cake s are almost ready to be birthed.

hey shroomer, i'm going to take a wild guess here, but im almost positive i have the same walmart bought hydrometer as yourself. i say this because mine is also reading a steady 60% RH, and has been ever since ive got my PMP up and running nearly a week ago. i hate to tell you but i think we have been duped into purchasing a bunk product, due to its appealing low price. my pod is running a perlite base, pumped with fresh air from a bubblestone underneath the perlite. i have been told this is enough to supply adequate humidity, but i also mist a few times a day with water + h202 just to be on the safe side. I have a hard time beleiving that my RH would be hovering around 60% taking into account all that is going on in there, and i have come to the conclusion that the hydrometer is nothing more than a cheap piece of faulty plastic equipment. i guess you could either try investing in a better device to get a more accurate reading, or stick it out, and hope for the best with the perlite system you have now. best of luck with the grow.

Well, I just made on of those myself. Haven't tested it yet; waiting for my jars to colonize.
Well it could be so many things. For example, how powerful of a aquarium pump are you using? Also, I'm a bit confused on your setup. Are you only using perlite and no type of rocks underneath??? That could cause some problems. I'm using 3-4'' of lava rocks topped with a thin layer of vermiculite that dosen't touch the water. Maybe you should stock the guide a little closer.

What kind of issues would you have if you were to use too much water?? and what are the signs of this ... Also what are the signs of not enough water? should you allways see water vapors on the side of the containor???
would it be possible just to open the Lid and using a piece of plexy glass in one hand spraying the container??? dose this make sense?

first of all, perlite should be damp not wet. there should also be no standing water in the terrarium as this decreases the surface size that the perlite needs to put out strong humidity. just load your perlite in a strainer and give it a good soaking, let all the water drain and then use.

Heres somthing I noticed about a PMP I worked with once, maybe it might be of value. Now, Because It had such a strong Air Pump, and tubes connecting above and below the water/geo, you could literally turn it on full blast and come back in an hour and there would be no water droplets, basically new fresh air, well I realized that this wasn't exactly right, nor was it entirely wrong. So, I designed an FAE schedule and ran it occasionally, somtimes stopping it altogether for 12 hours to let the humidity build up again and then hit it with the full FAE mode. Your not going to get humidity if your running your pump all the time, unless of coarse you can find a nice balance, perhaps reduce the amount of exchange holes, perhaps adjust the air intake nozles, whatever you do, just learn to maintain a good dosage of both humid air and fresh air. I believe there are basic paremeters shared amoungst the populace (74-78 F, 85-100 RH, FAE 3x day?) You shouldn't have to mist at all with a pmp, or lift the lid if you dont have too.
