Honeywater LC = Not My Friend

Okay folks...so I started this honeywater LC about 10 days ago. It's been haunting my nightmares the whole time. All I've got is this evil little "clump" that sits in the jar and this little layer of white fuzzy looking stuff on the bottom. I suspect the layer of stuff is sediments from the honey. I've been keeping this on top of my computer monitor to keep it warm for about the last 4 days. I've included two pictures and the exact cut-n-paste entry from my logs as to how I made the LC.
This pic is just a general pic of the LC, though you can still "the clump".

This pic is a closeup of "the clump".

Now, here's the entry from my logs:
. I started by taking a Philip's screwdriver and making a hole along the edge of the lid of a ½ pint jar. I then used polyfill to make a filter to place in the hole. After this, I filled the jar up to the lower line with purified drinking water. I then mixed about 3/4tbs of honey (from a Sam’s Choice Honeybear) into the water. I placed the jar into the steamer for 30 minutes then allowed it to cool overnight. I inserted the syringe at an angle so as to make the polyfill filter easier to penetrate. I then injected 2cc’s of spore solution into the honeywater. Upon removing the syringe, I sterilized the needle in an alcohol flame and placed it back into the tip shield. I also noticed that the polyfill was slightly damp, which worries me to some degree. I’m hoping that I didn’t just inject the spore solution into the polyfill or that the polyfill doesn’t become contaminated and therefore contaminate the honeywater.
There you have it. The story of this honeywater LC from hell.
Also, I inoculated a light corn syrup LC about 2 days ago and have been keeping it in the closet on top of the hot water heater for warmth. It's still as clear as the day I made it. Should this be?
Sorry if I'm being one of those annoying and impatient n00bs. I've just sunk a lot of money into this for it to flop.

I've made a small incubator out of a rubbermaid box by placing a heated moist sponge inside with the jars and placing the lid back on. Hoping this will help speed up growth somewhat. I'd still really appreciate some advice on what's up with the honeywater LC.

I've been active in this hobby since 1971 when I brought home a few fruiting cow pies from east texas and stuck them in my compost pile and actually got my first successful grow.
I do not use LC's at all. They seem to be all the buzz these days in the OMC, but like using popcorn spawn, or coir for casing layers, I feel they're a fad that will soon fade away. Commercial growers use liquid cultures, but never with honey, karo or any of the common methods we see employed here. They use malt and yeast with a constant magnetic stirrer, after proven contaminant free mycelium has been blended with an Eberbach and placed into the medium. In fact, honey is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. That's why it's been used for thousands of years as a preservative. Other growers of course will disagree, but that proves there's always more than one way to do things.
I would recommend you use your syringe to start some pf cakes, or as I do when starting a new vendor supplied culture, make up some rye grain jars, then in your glovebox, simply lift the lid a half inch on one side and squirt the liquid down the side of the glass jar. Be sure to wear latex gloves that have been washed with alcohol, and follow all sterile procedures. Work fast, leaving the lid open for the minimum amount of time possible. If you're set on using LC, try your luck with Karo syrup. Use no more than 3% by volume, mixed with distilled or filtered water. Good luck with the learning process. I know it can be frustrating at first. RR

I inoculated a karo LC 2 days ago and am waiting patiently (yea right) on it. Also, I went ahead and started a pf cake 2 days ago as well. I'm hoping that one way or the other, SOMETHING will work. It really needs to as I've only got a couple cc's of solution left and have sunk way too much money into this for it to flop and don't have the money to do it again.
