Second Doping Test Positive for US Tour de France Winner By VOA Sports 05 August 2006
The secondary drug test of Tour de France winning cyclist Floyd Landis has come up positive for a performance-enhancing drug.
The Phonak cycling team fired the American shortly after the results were announced Saturday in Paris by the International Cycling Union.
The stunning cycling victory by Landis has been under a cloud of controversy since an initial urine test conducted after the 17th stage of the race showed an elevated testosterone ratio.
The case will now be referred to the United States Doping Agency, which could take several weeks to ultimately decide the matter.
The 30-year-old Landis could be stripped of his Tour de France title - the first time in its history a winner would be disqualified for doping. Second-place finisher Oscar Pereiro of Spain would be declared the winner.
The American could also receive a two-year ban from the sport.
Floyd Landis waves US flag as he rides down Champs-Elysees following final stage of Tour de France Landis staged a remarkable comeback on the 17th stage of the Tour, overcoming a poor performance the day before to surge from 11th to third place overall.
His representatives have offered a number of explanations for the high testosterone to epitestosterone ratio in his first test, including thyroid medication for his ailing hip.
But The New York Times reported earlier this week that his initial urine sample turned up traces of synthetic testosterone.

I'm all for sports on doping, but not in the same league as natural athletes. There should be ways for sportspeople who want to use doping to compete among their peers, but it should be clearly marked, mebbe slap a DuPont sticker on their forehead
Many athletes in the Tour De France use "blood doping". This basically means they tap a pint of blood, keep it in the freezer, and then transfuse it into you before an event. You'll pee out the water, but will have an excess of red bloodcells, leading to an inhuman capacity to absorb and deliver oxygen to your muscles.
Another near untracable doping is to take alkalizers. The alkalinity in your blood will decrease the buildup of lactic acid in the muscles which is a big part of the pain in muscle fatigue.
Its all fine with me, but not among normal athletes. But then again, what are normal athletes?
-They have an UFO on their heads to cut down on drag -Tailor-made titanium bicycles with $100 ball bearings -Imodium to not crap in their pants (they do pee however, all of them) -a preventive aspirin to not get a pounding headache and muscle-ache -special meals and isotonic drinks between etappes
Where does caring for your athlete stop and feeding him doping begin?

It's a hard call. I live in Wyoming and in the late 80's therewere dudes in high school on juice, and encouraging us to do the same. I highly doubt that any more than 15% of athletes in the past 20 years haven't done at least one cycle. The stuff just works TOO much to not do it. On top of that, no matter what the retard reporters try to tell you, being on test feels great!! So let's add it up. Fell good+look good+tons of cash, fame, and power+ small chance of getting caught = worth the risk. ALWAYS!! Just my math, others may disagree.

I would totally have doped if I was in sports. Not anymore because of it being such a huge issue now, but before they made a big deal out of it, fuck yeah I would have.

I remember an SNL episode where they had the "All-Drug Olympics." Now that'd be something I'd like to see.

i think they should add on an addition to sports like the tour de france iron man events. I think at some point they should be handed some dosed water (really strong LSD comes to mind) and forced to compete while tripping nuts.
Not only would it make it a lot more interesting to watch, the athletes would have a grand ol' time.

I think all sports organizations except the NCAA and IOA should allow doping. However they should be able to choose for themselves.

I'm with Jim Rome (although I hardly ever listen to the guy) I WANT to see a dude hit a ball 1000 feet. I WANT to see a person long jump 40 feet. I WANT to see a man run a 5.5 second forty yard dash and burst into flames at the finish line. I mean why not?? Through a little LSD into the fray once in a while.... Pay per view baby!!!!

it's entertainment, I want to see some good shit. That includes blood, violence, fast moving objects. Football, used to have doping, not anymore, I want to see NFL full of roids. Now that would be a show.

Anyone hear the interview with the guy before the second test? He sounded guilty Immediately.
(not exact) Interviewer- Did you take any performance enhancing drugs to win? Winner- Well... I didn't take any type of performance enhancing pharmaceutically active hormonically prominent drug..
Interviewer- Have you ever taken performance enhancing drugs? Winner- (5 second pause, they literally counted it on this radio show), "I'll say no. People would think worse of me if I said something else, so I'll say no"
Not exact, but you get the point. The guy was flat out cheating.
