Reusing perlite and desiccant

If I just bake perlite in an oven then will I be able to reuse it? Can I do that with my "damp rid" desiccant too? If so, how long do I bake 'em and at what temperature?

I wouldn't reuse damp-rid.
dri-rite, yeah, damp-rid, no.
perlite, yes.
I rinse it out real well with some bleach water. you can bake it to return it to dry.

yes, it is cheap.
I find it easier, cheaper, faster, and less messy to reuse it.
dump it into a five gallon bucket.

cover the bucket with a piece of house screen.
like this, but with perlite instead of wbs.
secure a cut-out lid to the bucket over the screen, making a big colander.

rinse and dump, soak for a bit with bleach water too.

when done, just remove lid and screen and dump back into fruiting chamber.
but whatever works for you, of course.

Perlite is cheap but why waste what you have? Heat up the oven to 500 degrees and put it in there for about 2 hours. Everything bad will be long dead. Its not food so you can't overcook it... just some rocks.

I came up with that bucket idea a while back.
the whole screen thing that is.
I use it for: perlite, as said above soaking grains rinsing grains pasteurizing bulk substrate (different lid) hydrating vermiculite to proper moisture content mixing spawn/bulk for smaller trays
all kinds of stuff. a bucket/colander is a cool thing to have around.

I was under the impression that perlite works due to it's tiny pores.
If that's true, then it follows that those pores would clog up over time.
A good bleaching followed by a good hot drying, followed by agitation/vibration may get you a little more use out of it..if the above assumption is correct.

Yeah its not that perlite isn't cheap, its that gas isn't LOL. I'd have to spend 10 bucks in gas to get some 3 dollar perlite...better to just use the oven hehe
