quick somewhat off the topic question...i have read that after a flush it was a good idea to place the cake directly on the perlite....wouldnt that be equaly harmful as the mushie lying on the surface.....hmmm bottom line is perlite bad to have any thing incontact with?

no no no... its fine to sit the cake on perlite, perlite isnt poisonous, its harmful if inhaled, perlite is actually pretty inert.... a friend has made cran juice from a pure brf/perlite cake... and he didnt die didnt even get sick... some people are just smoking on the crack pipe round here :-)

perlite is not poisonous, any more than barbed wire or bullets are poisonous.

ok... this whole perlite thing being poisonous...
isn't perlite like rocks?
i mean yeah if you eat like a handful you might die...
but i really don't think if your mushroom touches the perlite you're going to be poisoned.
ppl put their cakes right on the perlite all the time.
right???

yea it's all good if it touches it but if you actually eat the perlite that's bad .. it's like expanded sand, it would be like eating glass.

Just cut the potentially rotted area of the cap off. I agree with Annos first post. I have eaten a few questionable shrooms, none with that look before. I have had some weird deformations though.
As far as the perlite thing , I wouldnt worry about that either. The dust is dangerous. When perlite is wet the risk of dust going anywhere is limited.
Like I say, just cut that part of the cap out and you should be O.K.
Don't you love harvest day. I just picked what appears to be a good 1/2 ounce (Dry).

There is a very simple system.... When in doubt, throw it out.
Getting high is not worth the chance of getting sick. If you can grow those, you can grow more.
Cutting of the funky looking pieces is no sure thing. Think of rold on bread or rotten wood. The damage often goes much further than is at first apparent.

your right when in doubt throw it out... but that shroom is fine... he came here to ask and its fine... it makes no sense to throw good ones out.... if it were black and mushy and shit i wouldnt say eat it... but thats just a shroom thats a little bruised... i dont see any rot on it, but if there were any it would be a small small amount and its dried so it cant spread or anything....... its not like a big green spot of contam or anything

I agree with Lovdemshrooms on the "ROT-OR-NOT" shrooms in the pics....it is a general "rule" in the mushroom community, that when ever in a ,slight doubt = throw out.
I bet this thing has saved some asses in the past and will save some more in the future, but i like to think of it like that: It doesnt even worth the thought that something might be wrong with that baby , in your trip....no one cant be that desperate for 2 more shrooms...or....eeerrrr...are we all....???fuck... anyway., :| i just wanted to say how pretty ,Champiuons falling star was..! :P
