I'm not having kids!
    #5930063 - 08/03/06 11:15 PM (17 years, 5 months ago)

alright this is a rant of some sorts brought on by my late night smoke breaks... i live in the mountains of a rural town which is slowley being turned into a suberbia(devolopments everywhere). during these sits outside i think about life and all its fassats and realize everything i love will in 200 years or so will be demolished along with any hope of its return.

the human population is growing exponentially, we drain on the environment, we waste without thinking twice, and we pollute like its going out of style. this is stressing our planet to the breaking point. our generation is essentially the last that can enjoy everything we take for granted.

Music will never be good again...Bob dylan, the beatles, led zepplin, eric clapton. im not saying that the new stuff is bad im just saying instead of telling a generation to let go, modern music is telling kids they have to dress a certain way or that they need to drive big jeeps and blast the 50's latest tracks, banghoes and discriminate. musics quality left with the 60's. e'nuff said.

Modern film is a joke...seriously. every new film that comes out is a rehash of an old one, based on a book/true story, a carbon copy of the one that came out last month, or straight up awlful. i havent seen a good origional fil popout of hollywoods snobby rectum in over a decade.

people these days still come in many shapes and sizes but most of which are middle class trash. they belive everything they do is right and nothing bad can happen as long as they pay there taxes, take jimmy to soccer practice, and keep the suburban topped off with regular unleaded. these people are the ones who recycle glass but not aluminum. these are the people who cant understand why others do drugs so therefore that are immeadiatly "bad" people. these are the people that belive there nine to five is as close to freedom as they'll ever get.

trust me i could go on for days.

~this is why im not having kids~

"in times of widespread chaos and confusion, it has been the duty of more advanced human beings - artists, scientists, clowns, and philosophers - to create order. In such times as ours however, when there is too much order, too much m management, too much programming and control, it becomes the duty of superior men and women and women to fling their favorite monkey wrenches into the machinery. To relieve the repression of the human spirit, they must sow doubt and disruption"

But how is not having children, going to improve this situation?

I would have to agree with you.  That was a very worthy rant.  Well minus the not having kids part.  :stoned:

Or you could have kids and start smoking again, and every time they ask whats wrong with the world just blow smoke in their face

Seriously - every generation says the world's going to hell in a handbasket, but I agree with you on many counts. Youth culture never was about the bling bling with mercedes benz as God.

Still it is great to be alive in this day and age.

I'd have to agree with ya, seeing the shit i went thru as a kid, I wouldn't want to drag any kid though it.

I think you're being a bit short sighted and possibly naive (Although I agree on the kid’s thing). A lot of things have changed for the better since the 60's - racism and sexism being the most significant in my opinion. And there was pop trash around back then just like there is now, maybe the ratios have changed but the social climate back then wasn't as romantic as you make it out to be.

A life time is nothing when you look at the history of humanity, and I have no doubt the world will be a very different place in another 40 years. Don't take all that you have for granted.

I see your point. it's aprt of the reason i don't want to have kids.

Also becuase the world is just gonna get progressively worse and i dunno what i think of the world i live in NOW let alone the world that WILL be 20 or 30 years from now.

But in the same breathe i love life, i love the struggle, i love how GOOD life can be. I love the extreme's, i love the ups and downs. the downs suck and they'll prolly be a lot lower in a couple of years but i mean don't the good things have to kinda get better too?

What makes me not what to have children is the chance of having to get an episiotomy.

I agree on this part.
However, I think the future will not be as dim as most people imagine it. I believe that there will be technological advances that will allow us to do more things while polluting less or not poluting at all.

There's always good art, you just have to search more for it. Don't settle for the mainstream.

At least you have a fresh and optimistic outlook on life.
