Need help ID'ing purchased mushrooms!
    #5924952 - 08/02/06 10:29 AM (17 years, 8 months ago)

Okay I purchased these mushrooms and were told they were active hallucinogens.

They were delivered rolled up in a plastic bag. On first glance they appeared to be small lumps of black mush. They smell horrible, I've been around fresh shrooms before - but this smell is the worst I've ever encountered.

Stem: Brown (somewhat scaley *horizontal lines every few cms extending up the stem to the cap)

Gills: Black - the gills were either very dark brown or just black after washing, the mushrooms were in too bad of condition to spore print.

Overall color: Brown

Cap: Has a red nipple on the top, and is slightly flat (could be from the poor method of collection or how they were stored).

The shrooms are very small and the biggest one couldnt have been more than 2 inches.

The guy claimed they were P. Arcana but they look very different then the type of mushrooms. Any help? I dont even think picture would help you all at this point, if they're desperately needed I'll find a way. Any ideas on what these could be?

Thx...

Identifying dried (or old/in bad condition) mushrooms is very hard to not possible in most cases. Especially with no pictures. Like you said though, pictures probably wouldn't even be too much more helpful.

Small lumps of black mush doesn't sound too good.. are they totally dry? If mushrooms are not fully dry and stored in plastic bags, they can rot. Not saying that this is what happened here, but it's a thought if your mushrooms are black and smell really bad.

For future reference (you may want to make a "note to self" recording), you should not buy lumps of black mush from anyone.

I replied to Eris I guess it didn't go through :/. That could very well have been rotten due to the plastic bag. They came wet ("fresh"), which pissed me of anyway because when they dried my 7 grams turned into very little. Also, I didn't want to doubt or disrespect the guy because he was a friend of a friend - I handed him the money...he handed the bag we got in our cars a drove away. I've pretty much concluded I got jipped but Im going to get my money back one way or another .

Rotten mushrooms?

Maybe they are Psilocybe arcana, but you got totally ripped off. He should not be pricing them by dry weight, if he is distributing them wet. Nor should he be disributing fresh mushrooms in plastic bags. Tell the doofus that he needs to dry his future stash, or he's going to get a lot of sick angry people busting his arse.

I'm starting to believe they're not only rotten - but they're inactive. I'm pissed, to jeapordize people's well being for a few extra bucks isn't cool by any means. I heard the other friend of mine he sold these too ate 1 and felt sick to his stomach (he's okay). Some people  :mad2:

Cure Cat, why would you say they might be Psilocybe arcana? While the poster did not say where he was form, P. arcana is Baltic species. I do not think the Darksideofthemoon livesd in that part of the world.

Those do not even grow in the USA

Don't eat rotten shrooms.

Fresh mushrooms when stored in plastic bags cannot breath and their quality dimishes quickly in sealed plastic.

Food dehydrators work best for drying shrooms of all kinds.

And most importantly, never eat unidentified mushrooms.

MJ, when I said "Maybe they are Psilocybe arcana", the italicized "ARE" was meant to express doubt.

Wow, sensitive aren't we?

MJ is always busting my balls.
But it's chill.  Because miscommunications that occurr, should be clarified, as to prevent misinformation from spreading.
No hard feelings.  If I was unclear, I don't mind explaining.

To tell you the truth Psiclops, I had no idea I was offending you, and frankly, I still don't know what "shit" I have done to you.  :undecided:
Sorry I pissed you off, it was unintended.

CureCat is a she? do you have super-sensitive pheromone sensing spyware devices that can translate the sex of a computer image of a person?
I've learned one thing from my message board experiences over the years and that's that "They may post like a girl, but you can never know for sure unless they tell you."

Well he said that because the guy I bought them from claimed them to be P. Arcana.
