Cloning question

Just out of curiosity... If I take a section of my favorite mushroom, and use it to start a new liquid culture-
Will this new mycelium mass be haploid or diploid? (when during fruiting do the multiple nuclei merge?)
Also, if I have a genetic sample of a polykaryotic mycelium, is there risk of these genetic partners 'breaking up' at some juncture?
(should this be in advanced?)

It will be dikaryotic. I haven't ever heard of dikaryons separating back into monokaryotic mycelium. Of course that doesn't prove it impossibe, but I currently know of none that do that. Perhaps workman will see this and add something from his experiences.
>(should this be in advanced?)
No, it belongs here in my opinion. RR

Alright.. well I'll noob it down a bit by also requesting this information:
What determines how many genetic components a cubensis mycelium mass will have?
Does it top out at two? Or some other number? Or is it simply less likely to have above a certain number? (what number?)

With multispore inoculation, often thousands of strains are created. By anastamosis, most merge into one strain by the time fruiting comes, but since some strains are not compatable, you often end up with several in the same tray. This is why sometimes we see a project with drastically different looking fruits at the same time. There's an excellent section on this in The Mushroom Cultivator. RR

There are methods haploidization using certain chemicals (benomyl). I haven't looked into it much but here is a relevant shroomery post.
