small mutations

During my last experiment i've noticed some weird "mutations" or rather "malformation". This malformation happened on 2 or three shrooms already. The shrooms are growing is "stressed environment" (not much air exchange, not much humidity in the casing... my fault as I didn't "believe" in this B+ casing from the start...). The "malformation" I have noticed consists in (sorry for my english here)... you know the part underneath the cap? The part that releases spores? Well, it has grown in a small area on the cap surfac. Is it normal? Has it ever happened to you? This is my first time! My poor shrooms!

If it kinda looks like the creature from that Stephen King movie...you know the one with "I Dutitz," which is what you seem to be describing, I've had something similar that I attributed to H2O2 mutation. I could have been wrong, but when I stopped misting with 5% H2O2+water, I never saw one again. Then again, it could be a genetic thing...as far as I know (which isn't much) there's no way of telling.
Peace.

You mean the gills on the outside? That happens once in a while. Good news is, mutated shrooms are typically more potent.

it happens sometimes. nothing to worry about. sometimes genetic, sometimes due to poor growing conditions, sometimes due to exposure to chemicals in cleaning products and such. its not a problem unless it happens a lot, repeatedly.. then you need to figure out whats going on. but a few mutants here or there is normal, they taste and work just the same as their normal counterparts.

Not true. The only way that could happen is if the mutation changed certain sequences that resulted in increased active chemical production. The chances of this happening are slim. It is just as likely that they would be less potent than more potent. Most likely they will be exactly the same potency as a normal shroom. Mutants just look cool.
