American Rights in Jeopardy

If you haven't heard, Senator Fritz Hollings (D-South Carolina) has introduced new legislation into the Senate that, if passed, will have incredible impact on the rights of nearly every American citizen. A similar bill is being created for introduction into the House as well by member Adam Schiff of Burbank. This new legislation is based on the assumption that EVERY US CITIZEN IS A CRIMINAL and should be treated as such. Have you ever recorded a TV show or movie to watch later? Have you ever copied a song to tape for your car or MP3 for your computer? Have you ever faxed or emailed a funny document or news article? Do you own a VCR, DVD player, fax machine, cellphone, pager, HDTV or computer? Have you ever written any kind of paper, story or article? Have you ever composed music or created any other work of art? Funded by entertainment industry executives, our legislators are preparing to modify the US Copyright laws. These modifications will change the very nature of what it means to be copyrighted and put the USA out-of-synch with the rest of the world on these issues. It will neuter the computer as we know it, turning it into an Internet Media Content Player, and make all digital technology obsolete and possibly illegal to own or operate. This article is a VERY IMPORTANT read if you have answered YES to any of the above questions: http://www.farces.com/stories/storyReader$414 Here is Adam Schiff's letter that he sent to EVERY HOUSE REPRESENTATIVE. In it are many false statements of "fact" and tenuous assumptions that he uses to try to persuade others in joining him in support of this bill: http://216.110.42.179/docs/cbdtpa/schiff.dear.colleague.032702.html "Entertainment industry sales are down 10% from last year." Hmmm... maybe that's because the whole country has been in a RECESSION? If after reading about this new legislation for yourself, you are AGAINST such a blatant violation of rights, go to: http://www.digitalconsumer.org/ ...where you can "fax" your congress-person. Write them a letter, email them, fax them, call them up and tell them what you think. The supporters of these new bills have already been paid off by the media executives (you'll see that in the article). We have to yell loud and long if we want to make a difference.
