My only reason to use tape...and which kind?

Ok, one other quick post. I hating putting all questions in one post cause they usually dont all get answered. Anywayz.....
For 8 of my jars i didnt use tape before boiling them, just tinfoil. 4 I did....
Now, I realized that although I was using the rubber seal facing up, I still had the put the holes through from the other side first. Cause when I tried putting them through the rubber seal side first they metal bent. Now this left me with the problem of having those jagged edges on that side....grrr....
So although id rather not use tape, the tape does allow you to cover those jagged edges so the tin foil wont rip.
uhm......What kind of tape do you guys use? Also, the tinfoil block some moisture from getting to the tape, so i guess you have more options of what you can use.
Opinions please....

its very easy to fix the jagged edges just get some big pliers and flatten them out... but its a good idea to use tape anyway trust me... just use electrical tape it works great.... that or duct tape ripped into smaller pieces

Tap it with a hammer on a hard surface, this will flatten it. Make sure the hole is still big enough afterwards.

Microporous surgical tape. This allows 'breathing'. Available from chemists/drugstores.
