Finding/Identifying an Heirloom
    #5925421 - 08/02/06 01:20 PM (17 years, 5 months ago)

Recently some land near one of my favorite hiking spots was logged and cleared. The land is remote and untraveled, but was once the center of a Native American tribe for a brief period of time. The now logged-land was then on the outer border of a cotton plantation before going out of use.

To the point, I found four patches of corn growing in distinct groups. The kernels obviously sprouted after the forest canopy was cleared and much to my surprise, one is forming an ear! I've lost 2 of the patches because the undergrowth is so big, but found the others and have them marked.

I'm in the process of trying to find out how to go about testing the corn to find out if it is indeed an heirloom. I'm new to it though and could use some advice if anyone has knowledge that could help... Just thought I'd share a cool find with you guys.

theres no real way to tell but the small spindly plants suggest it may be indian corn (the colored ornamental stuff)
