Small Mazatapec shrooms?

I planted a pint of Mazatapec mycelium on rye about 3 weeks ago and I cased them with some worm castings and I am about to harvest the first flush of these babies. There is only one problem, the tallest of my little mushies is only about 2 1/5 of an inch tall. IT is fruiting very well with over 70 countable (estimate) mushrooms on the little 6X6in (aprox) container and several other pins still forming.

I used a little plastic sandwich sized container, could the size of the container be the problem? or that I just used like 90% rye (lack of nutrients)? I have never grown this species before so I dont know if this the normal size. I dont have access to my digital camera so I cant show you some pictures but the mushies are small. The biggest cap is about 1 1/2 cm wide and the veil has already broken on it. any ideas guys? I will post pictures as soon as I can.

My experiene has been that the thicker and larger the casing the bigger the cubies. Example. I after giving away many colonized jars I had one left. I didn't want to grow it in cake form so I made a small casing. The casing was about 1/4-1/2" thick. This produced cubies no taller then 3 inches and no wider then 1 cm. Now with my standard casings, 3 1/2 pint jars spread out atleast 1 inch thick, I receive much larger and thicker shrooms. A bonsai tree only grows as big as the roots will let it. Small pot=small root system=small tree. Small casing=small mycelium network=small cubies. Just some thoughts bro. L8rs.

Try a thicker substrate layer next time. 6 X 6 is too big for one pint.
